UFA Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the perfect style for anyone, Male or Female -Adults and Children

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique, most notably by applying joint-locks and choke holds to defeat the other person.

Steve teaches separate kids BJJ classes with an emphasis on technique and strong spirit, he encourages the students to compete in BJJ tournaments. This helps them understand the need for focus and concentration during class, it also builds a strong bond with the other students and shows that there can be rewards for hard work and dedication.

If you’re feeling stressed about work, money, relationships or anything when training your concentration will need to be on the exercises, drills and wrestling, which helps relieve the stress you may be under.

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

Kids love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it can be very rewarding for them to learn but it is a very technical system to learn and sometimes  young children can have trouble understanding the intricate techniques used in this highly competitive sport. For this reason Steve only teaches children from the age of 7 years old.

PRIDE - CONFIDENCE
AND SELF DEFENCE

Good BJJ skills can only be gained over a period of time with lots of practice and repetition. Commitment and time is needed to gain these skills.
Self-Confidence will also be gained from regular training and your child will learn valuable skills which may assist in a self-defence situation one day.

A brief history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

BRIEF HISTORY
Jiu Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the early 1990s, when Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert Royce Gracie won the first, second and fourth Ultimate Fighting Championships, which at the time were single elimination martial arts tournaments. Royce fought against often much-larger opponents who were practicing other styles, including boxing, shoot-fighting, karate, judo and Tae Kwon Do. It has since become a staple art for many MMA fighters and is largely credited for bringing widespread attention to the importance of ground fighting. Sport BJJ tournaments continue to grow in popularity worldwide and have given rise to no-gi submission grappling tournaments, such as the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship.

Today, the main differences between the BJJ styles is between traditional Gracie Jiu Jitsu’s emphasis on self-defence, and Sport Brazilian Jiu Jitsu orientation towards competition. There is a large commonality of techniques between the two. Also, there is a wide variety of ideals in training in different schools in terms of the utilisation of pure or submission technique versus skilful application of pressure to overcome an opponent.
